What a wonderful post! A timely reminder and a bit of an 'aha' moment for me as the pink Barbie pool of my life is winter - I don't like it and tend to 'close down' and say no to it and everything associated with it (Christmas and all). The strange thing is that in warmer times my attitude to life IS to use the power of 'yes', so I guess I need to look for some clarity here! (Or move to a warmer country.) I linked to you from Havi Brooks' site after reading a couple of your comments on her blog and will subscribe to yours now. Really enjoy your writing, thank you!

Chris - Another fabulous post! I used to do some theater improvs and so totally relate to the 'saying Yes' phenomenon. So many theater exercises are truly mind blowing like that. Another improv maxim is, 'Be responsible for your partner.' Meaning, you'll look good if you make the other guy look good. That's generally a new way for people to look at things, especially when doing an improv scene.

I was truly delighted with your wonderful essay today on your blog. Thank you for mentioning Improv Wisdom and for the great story about the difficulty and the power of YES. I am constantly being asked to DEFEND that principle in particular. You are right that most folks are much more at home and comfortable with the time honored NO. It maintains control . . . that thing we must have at all costs. And, the costs ARE real. We miss living in so many ways.

Thank you, thank you for writing about this. I plan to quote you! I love "the Pink Pool" as a metaphor.
May your day be filled with YES and with grand adventures.
Warm regards,
Patricia Ryan Madson
